Russian tech agency to check safety reports about Galaxy Note 7

MOSCOW, Sep 5 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology has filed a request to Samsung after mass media reports about explosive batteries of the South Korean giant’s flagship smartphone Galaxy Note 7, which is expected on the local market by December, the agency said Monday in a statement.

The authority sent the request to the company’s local branch, Samsung Electronics Rus Company, asking for explanations and more materials on the matter.

“Upon receipt of materials, we will take measures in compliance with law,” the statement read.

Earlier in September, Samsung suspended sales of the Galaxy Note 7 due to risks of explosive batteries. The company pledged to replace faulty devices with new ones for free worldwide.

Samsung said that it will deliver smartphones to Russia from newly manufactured batches of the device.

The exact date of unveiling the smartphone on the Russian market will be made public later, Samsung said. The company earlier planned to open sales on the local market on August 26, but then the date was delayed until September 16.

Thy producer started selling the Galaxy Note 7 on August 19 in 10 countries.
